Simone Battle's Made in America Attire

I used to watch X Factor and was pleased to find out that one of the contestants wore attire that was made in America.  Former X Factor contestant Simone Battle wore Runwaydreamz 617 Vintage American Flag Short which is made in the USA.  How patriotic is that?  Since, American flag apparel made in the USA has become a rare find.  The webpage doesn't mention the shorts are made in the USA, but I emailed Runwaydreamz and sure enough they are made here.  The shorts are not in my budget at the moment but if they were I definitely would consider purchasing them.  Simone Battle did wear another pair of shorts during the X Factor auditions that I also really liked (the red ones in the photo below).
I do not own this photo it came from Simone Battle's Facebook page.
Simone Battle with her fierceness and wearing red American Apparel shorts, this 21-year-old little diva impressed Simon with her style and her rendition of the Pussycat Dolls "When I Grow Up.  The shorts appear to be nylon I searched American Apparel's website for red shorts and the prices range from $8 to $52.  American Apparel is a clothing manufacturer in the United States.

If you saw the video above, I must say she is very talented.

Update 10/26/2011: I am impressed with Simone Battle's "He Likes Boys" music video.  Mainly because of the American made apparel throughout the music video and the vintage Ford Thunderbird.  Simone even mentioned American Apparel in the lyrics ("He dresses like an American Apparel Mannequin").  Simone Battle is an "American" pop star like for real.  I hope she continues to support American workers by wearing American made clothes and driving American made cars in her music videos.

What I Purchased This Weekend

I did a previous post about Buying American to boost the economy.  I wanted to show y'all I practice what I preach.  So I went shopping this weekend and purchased 13 American made items.  And it didn’t take me too much longer to read the labels to determine the country of origin.  I saved money buying the American made products since most were not name brands.  The only product I paid more for was the Lysol Neutra (Air Freshener) but it doubles as a surface disinfectant.  I also used it to dust my home today.  I don’t know if it is safe on all surfaces though so you should read the label before using.  So basically I got 3 products in one.   I got the Butterball Ground Turkey for $2.29 per pound @ Costco which is low in fat and is great for making tacos, chili, spaghetti, and turkey burgers.  The Kirkland (Costco) Cinnamon Rolls were like the best Cinnamon Rolls I ever had.  They make them at Costco so that definitely counts as American made.  I am pretty sure other brands of Cinnamon Rolls are made in America but I just really like the taste of Kirkland Cinnamon Rolls.  The following is a list of my American made purchases this weekend:

Butter Ball Ground Turkey $2.29 per pound
Kirkland (Costco) Cinnamon Rolls $1.50 each ($8.99 6 pack)
Farmland Heavy Cream
Up & Up (Target Brand) Zip Storage Bags $2.49 and $2.99
Lysol Neutra Air (Air Freshener) $2.99
KitKat (Candy Bar)
Up & Up Dishwashing liquid $1.97
Kirkland (Costco) Cookies
Dixie Napkins $1.44
Granny Smith Apples
Main Stays (Wal-Mart Brand) 6 Hangers for just 86 cents
Carpet Fresh
Mr. Bubble (Bubble Bath)

Green Dot: A Great Way to Ward off Identity Theft

Green Dot Re-loadable Prepaid Credit Cards are a great way to ward off identity theft. People who try to steal your identity, may go through your mail and steal your credit card statements or hackers may hack into your banking or financial files through your computer.
Once you have filled out the online form you will receive your credit card number over the website, make sure that you write it down correctly, there is no way to retrieve it online, you would have to wait until the card comes in the mail. You can load up to $500 on these cards at time. Each store will have reload cards to help you add money every time you need it. Now, if someone were to steal your card, the only money on it is the money you put on. You can use this card just like a regular credit card but without the worry that someone can ruin your credit if this card was stolen.

Another great benefit of having the Green Dot Pre-Paid Credit Cards is that they are affordable. There is no interest on purchases, since everything is paid for right from the card. As soon as a purchase is made the money comes off. You can also pay your bills online too. The startup cost is minimal; when you make your purchase to get the card you pay a one-time fee of $4.95. Every time you reload the card you pay $ 495 for each card. You can put as little as $20 and as much as $ 500 per card. Once a month Green Dot charges a $5.95 fee but there are no hidden charges or fees.

There is a variety of Green Dot Credit Cards and Reload Cards available. There is a Prepaid Visa and MasterCard Card that can be used where most credit cards are used. You can shop or pay bills with them, you can make withdrawals and do everything that a regular credit card can do. Green Dot also has a Prepaid Student Card; this is a great way for students who want more financial responsibility without running the risk of overspending and ruining your credit right from the start.

The Prepaid NASCAR Card is available in Visa for all of those NASCAR fans. There is also an Online Shopping Card; this card makes shopping on the web safer and easier than ever before. This card is available in VISA and can be used with buying things online such as downloading music and downloading games. The Express Bill Pay Card can be used to help the consumer pay their bills more efficiently. You can pay the cable, satellite and cell phone bills with the Express Bill Pay Card. There is also a VISA and MasterCard available in Spanish.

Congress Will Starve Poor to Make Political Statement

I do not own this photo.  I got it from St. Louis Activist Hub's blog.
The American Jobs Act contains the extension of federal unemployment insurance.  Unless Congress acts, on January 1 2012, millions of long-term unemployed workers will begin to lose their benefits.  According to National Employment Law Project, 2.2 million would lose their benefits by mid-February.  Without action, the current 99 weeks a person can receive UI benefits will be just 26 weeks (about one third of 99 weeks).  The average unemployed person would go months without any form of income after going six months on the limited income unemployment insurance provides (on average about $300/week, or about 70% of the poverty level for a family of four) .  20% or more of the child population in 40 states and D.C. lived in food insecure households in 2009.   Also, 1 in 6 Americans struggled to feed themselves and their children in 2008.  Congress will be starving the poor if they don’t extend the unemployment benefits while simultaneously passing the “Bridge to Work” program both contained in the American Jobs act of 2011

President Obama's "Bridge to Work" plan (located on page 99 of American jobs Act of 2011 sec. 324) would allow people on unemployment insurance to spend up to eight weeks as unpaid trainees at participating employers in hopes of learning new skills or getting hired. The program would be voluntary for businesses and trainees.  The Bridge to Work program is described to “increase individuals’ opportunities to move to permanent employment”.

According to the Congressional Budget Office, every $1 spent on unemployment insurance increases GDP by as much as $1.90. And every $1 million spent on unemployment benefits creates as much as 15 cumulative years of full-time equivalent employment. No other policy options on the table come close to those effects.

The fact that Congress is willing to starve millions of Americans and their children just to make a political statement is just AWFUL!  Many are depending on their UI benefits in order to eat and it is cruel and unusual punishment to suddenly take the impoverished people in America’s benefits without giving an alternative.  Congress needs to stop playing games with people's lives, they are not toys.

Congress’s Role in “Fast and Furious”

Acting ATF Director Kenneth Melson was reassigned following investigations into “Fast and Furious”, a law enforcement operation aimed at major gun-trafficking networks on the Southwest border.

B. Todd Jones, the top federal prosecutor in Minnesota, has now assumed command of the government's firearms enforcement agency (ATF). He did so under the same terms as his predecessor, Kenneth Melson, and three interim directors before him. Jones is the fifth "acting director" of the ATF since 2006, when Congress required that permanent directors be confirmed by the Senate.

Since that time, the Bush and Obama administrations have not won approval of nominees because they were opposed by lawmakers and the gun rights lobby.  I find it quite ridiculous that Congress expects perfection from an agency that has not had a “permanent” director in 5 years.  Maybe this incident wouldn’t have happened had Congress appointed a “permanent” director.  Notice the guns didn’t start “walking” across the U.S. border into Mexico till 2006 (you can read more about this inmy previous article) the same year Congress required that “permanent” directors be approved by the Senate.

Congress needs to stop blanket filibustering every ATF director appointment and confirm someone.  (Beginning of my sarcastic rant.) Oh what was I thinking they can’t do that.  They might upset the NRA who has spent $5,986,000 in total lobbying expenditures since 2009, according to OpenSecrets.org.  The NRA opposed Obama’s nominee Andrew Traver back in 2010 and guess what Congress didn’t confirm him.  The NRA not only opposed Traver's nomination, but called for President Obama to withdraw the nomination altogether.

In 1978, the NRA was ready when the Carter administration proposed a rule requiring quarterly reports on gun sales from licensed firearms dealers. NRA opposition produced 350,000 letters and comments. One letter was addressed to the Gestapo, while another included a tea bag to invoke the Boston Tea Party.  Oh this must be when the Tea Party really started.  After all it is a well-known fact that tea and guns just go together like peanut butter and jelly.  Congress killed the rule and also prohibited ATF from "consolidating or centralizing" gun dealer records in a computer database, which the agency wanted to do to analyze gun traces for trafficking patterns. Congress also cut $4.2 million from the ATF budget, the amount needed to fund a computer system.  This is like the smartest thing ever Congress knows that to truly protect the American people we need to ban a centralized computer system so guns (which are US citizens in case you didn’t know) can exercise their right to travel around the world without having to be traced by the US government.

The National Rifle Association endorsed candidates in about two-thirds of congressional races in the midterm elections. Often, the choice not to endorse was pragmatic -- either both candidates had top NRA ratings or both had poor ratings. Of those endorsed, 80 percent won, according to The Washington Post's analysis.  The NRA is a powerful force in politics with annual revenue of about $250 million, the group has for four decades been the strongest force shaping the nation's gun laws.  The NRA in the past two decades has spent more than $100 million on political activities in the United States, according to documents and interviews, including $22 million on lobbying and nearly $75 million on campaigns.

Just don’t you forget Elected Officials  are not in Congress to represent the American people no matter what that darn Constitution says or the fact that the lower house is called the House of Representatives.  They are there to protect and serve only those who can afford a lobbyist, a right which you (the average working class American) are not afforded.  There is nothing you can do about it but be richer explained far better in the words of the ever so wise Herman Cain:  if you don't have a job and you are not rich, blame yourself!"  This marks the end of my sarcastic rant.  But, seriously what the h*ll is wrong with Congress?

What the News Media Won’t Tell You about “Fast and Furious”

"Fast and Furious" was intended to gather information on how Mexican drug cartels use operatives in the U.S. to buy and smuggle guns across the border. Federal Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agents were instructed to watch — but not to stop — the illegal sales in the hope of gathering intelligence on how the smugglers worked.  But in the process, hundreds of guns wound up in the hands of Mexican drug gangs. Two of the weapons turned up at the scene where a U.S. Border Patrol agent was killed in a shootout but it hasn't even been determined that those guns were used to fire the fatal shots.

Attorney General Eric Holder first became aware of the operation earlier this year, after its details were publicly reported in media accounts.  Attorney General Holder took "decisive action" earlier this year when he learned about the gun investigation known as Operation Fast and Furious, by referring it to the inspector general, and later overhauling the leadership at the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives, which oversaw the investigation, and the U.S. Attorney's Office in Phoenix, which helped manage the inquiry.

"It has become clear that the flawed tactics employed in Fast and Furious were not limited to that operation and were actually employed in an investigation conducted during the prior administration," Holder said, referring to a separate initiative known as Operation Wide Receiver managed by federal authorities during the Bush administration.

"Regardless, those tactics should never again be adopted in any investigation," he said.

The United States was funneling guns to the drug cartels during the Bush administration in an operation based in Tucson called Operation Wide Receiver, years before Fast and Furious began in Arizona. Further, a cartel member now in custody in Chicago says the United States and Sinaloa drug cartel have been working together.

Although the news media has focused on the ATF’s Fast and Furious, another operation, Operation Wide Receiver, allowed guns to “walk” into Mexico during the Bush administration, 2006 -- 2007, according to a Tucson gun seller who kept a lengthy journal.

While the news media and Congressmen focus on the Obama administration, the fact is that Project Gunrunner actually began in Laredo, Texas, as a pilot project in 2005, according to the Department of Justice.  It was this same area -- the Texas border area, and south along the Gulf in Mexico, where the most deaths, massacres and tortures have been carried out.

Back in Tucson, Mike Detty told CBS News that he began as a confidential informant for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in 2006. At first Detty reported a suspected gun smuggler to the ATF after a gun show. Then, the ATF asked him to work as a confidential informant. After that, he sold about 450 firearms as part of Operation Wide Receiver, from his home business Mad Dawg.  Detty said he did not realize in the beginning that the US was allowing the weapons to “walk” to criminals in Mexico.

Back in Washington, Republican Congressmen had no idea that their probe, and demands for the truth about gunrunning to Mexico’s drug cartels would lead back to the Bush administration. The US Attorney General, appointed by Bush in Feb. 2005, was Alberto Gonzales.

As revealed in Wikileaks, the e-trace program for weapons had too many technical problems to be functional in Mexico. In Wikileaks, US diplomats state that the level of mistrust between agencies within Mexico, and the amount of corruption within law enforcement in Mexico, results in few weapons being traced through the e-trace program.

Herman Cain Wants to Raise Your Taxes

Dean Clancy, vice president of FreedomWorks notes that there are some glaring problems that could lay the precendent for bad tax policy in the future:
“it adds a new tax — a national sales tax — on top of the income tax.
“The second problem with Cain’s plan is more serious. The plan puts in place the infrastructure for a VAT — a Value Added Tax. That’s bad. Very bad.

“A VAT is a form of national sales tax that is collected at every stage of the process from the initial gathering of raw materials to the final sale to the end consumer. It is the most insidious of all taxes, because it is built into the price of everything and consumers can’t see how much of the price is due to the tax. So when prices rise due to a tax hike, consumers assume it’s just prices rising due to market forces. Politicians love this about a VAT. They can take more money out of our wallets than with other, more transparent forms of taxation. Taxpayers should hate it for the very same reason.

European countries have much higher overall tax takes than does the United States. Why? Because the Europeans all have VATs, and we do not. Total receipts of the US Government since World War II have averaged about 18 percent of GDP and have never exceeded 20.9 percent (the peak, in 1944). By comparison, the “Big Six” European countries’ total receipts since the early 1970s when VATs became ubiquitous have not been less than 30 percent of GDP and today average a little over 40 percent! Twice as high as in the US.

Well, you say, Cain’s national sales tax isn’t a VAT. Okay, that’s true. But guess what? Europe’s first VATs all started out life as national sales taxes. Sales taxes are relatively easy to evade. VATs are much harder to evade. So sales taxes have a habit of evolving into VATs. That’s what happened in Europe. And it’s what will happen here, if we adopt Cain’s sales tax.

Dean Clancy obviously understands how the value added tax (VAT) works.  His statement is supported by this quote from Wikipedia: “throughout the world, VAT has been gaining favour over traditional sales taxes. In principle, VAT applies to all provisions of goods and services. VAT is assessed and collected on the value of goods or services that have been provided every time there is a transaction (sale/purchase). The seller charges VAT to the buyer, and the seller pays this VAT to the government.”

A flat rate income tax is fair but a flat rate national sales tax is a tax on the poor who would in many cases have to pay a national and state sales tax with Herman Cain’s proposed plan.  A person making $100 dollars a week should not pay the same amount in taxes as a person money making $1000 a week.  Herman Cain is trying to parade his 666… I mean 999 tax plan as lower taxes for the American people in front of the media when in fact our taxes will be higher and businesses will suffer when consumers cut down on spending to avoid a national sales tax.  Herman Cain seems to have a lack of empathy for the poor.  The following is a Herman Cain quote as only he can get away with saying (because he is black): “if you don't have a job and you are not rich, blame yourself!"

I wrote another post not to long ago on how ridiculous this tax plan is.  The media seriously needs to read this and stop worshiping every word that comes out of this man's mouth.

Boosting the American Automotive Industry May Lead to Detroit's Resurgence

I do not own this image I got it from Ford's official website.

I typed in "American cars" on Google and was suggested "American cars are junk".  But my question is: What is wrong with American cars? Toyota's 2009-2011 recall affected over 12 million automobiles. Ford's latest recall has effected less than 1 thousand cars. Hyundai's latest recall has effected almost 1 million cars. GM's latest recall has affected less than 30 thousand cars. Which one sounds safer to y'all? American car manufacturers have shorter warranties because they don't need a long warranty when safety risks are so low. Everyone keeps talking about how great foreign manufactured cars are but they can't show me actual numbers to support this bias against our own. Like, do foreign people have special hands and superior brains that just make them genetically better at building cars? I was personally in a Mercedes Benz and a Jeep wrangler hit us and almost totaled our car my mom and I both have spinal cord injuries now and the woman in the Jeep was completely fine and only her Jeeps bumper was damaged. I was recently hit by a Ford mustang and the Mustang only had a very tiny scratch. I will never purchase a foreign automobile they just don't stand up to the safety reviews IRL. Although I am in a lot of pain because of them I am quite impressed with sturdy brute force of American made cars. My next car will most definitely be a Jeep or a Mustang.

Consumer Reports says that some Ford vehicles “now rival the best from Japan.” In the latest J.D.Power dependability study, GM's Buick division tied with Jaguar for the top spot, beating out Lexus and Toyota.

GM and Ford recently rolled out “payment protection plans,” at no extra charge, that will cover your monthly payment for several months if you lose your job. Ford's plan covers up to 12 months of payments as high as $700 per month. GM's plan covers up to nine months of payments, up to $500 per month.

American cars are way more stylish and fierce to me. There's still a kind of muscular styling that's uniquely American, evident in vehicles like the forthcoming Chevy Camaro, the Dodge Charger, the Pontiac G8 and the Ford Mustang. When other makes try to mimic American muscle cars, the result is often more comical than compelling. And nobody can replicate the rugged appeal of Jeep, which remains one of the world's most iconic brands.

The Ford Fusion, Chevy Malibu, Toyota Camry, and Honda Accord are all priced about the same, for instance, and all have similar quality ratings. But Ford is offering rebates of up to $3,500 on the Fusion, while Chevy is offering 0 percent financing on the Malibu. Honda offers no discounts on the Accord.

Recent GM introductions, such as the Buick LaCrosse V6 (FWD), Cadillac SRX, and Chevrolet Camaro and Equinox, are proving reliable from the get-go.

It's time to show some support for the home team. Boosting the American automotive industry could save jobs, help spur the development of new technologies here instead of overseas, and maybe even lead to Detroit's resurgence. Buying one of their cars is one way for ordinary individuals to try to make a small difference, the same way environmentalists might buy a hybrid, even if it doesn't save them money. So maybe it's time to park some patriotism in your driveway.

Herman Cain 9-9-9 Plan is Off the Wall

In an interview on Fox News Sunday, GOP presidential hopeful Herman Cain predicted that President Obama would call for a tax hike on the wealthy to pay for his jobs bill. Cain also said that such a plan would only make the economy worse.

"If you were to tax the millionaires more using that bad idea, it still doesn't solve the problem of how to reduce the spending. So, that's just class warfare flowering in my opinion and it's not going to help,” Cain said, adding that “This president and the administration have no clue.”

Cain defended his 9-9-9 economic plan, which calls for a flat nine-percent tax rate for corporate and individual income and a national sales tax. He said that “some of the best economists in the country” helped him devise the plan based on an analysis of how much revenue would be needed to balance the federal budget. Despite prodding from host Chris Wallace, however, Cain refused to name his economic team.

I find this to be quite silly considering that even if we were to reduce spending we couldn't even afford to pay for national security and defense agencies on a 9% tax rate. We would need a 16% flat tax rate to pay for essential government programs. 54% of the US budget goes toward our military. Most likely this economic team doesn't exist because that is just impossible unless Herman Cain also plans on cutting spending on defense, which means he doesn't plan on protecting or serving our nation. President Obama's American Jobs Act legislation has a 3% payroll tax rate for non public sector companies during the tax holiday. In order to pay for American Jobs Act of 2011 the plan is to cut spending and have the top income earners pay the same tax rate as the average middle class American about 36% It is likely Herman Cain didn't read the legislation before making accusations against the President. I have read it, considering he is running for President of my country I think he should read documents before making stuff up.

Just a thought, but 9-9-9 could it be 6-6-6 upside down (ha ha ha JK I just couldn't resist typing that).

Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann Saying Stuff that Doesn't Make Any Sense Again

Speaking of her hometown of Waterloo, Iowa, Bachmann said she “lived very carefully.”
“We wouldn’t consider spending more money than what we took in. That’s the kind of thinking that has to return to Washington DC,” she said.

Michelle Bachmann moved from Waterloo, Iowa when she was 13, that had to be in 1969.  I don't know what year between the year she was born 1956 and 1969 she is talking about specifically.  But in 1959 the US poverty level was 22.4% nearly 50% higher than the current national poverty level.  I guess she just decided to sing praises about a time period and place that would be almost impossible to check the statistics for.  She may have also been discussing her families spending habits which wouldn't make sense since running a family of 3 is nothing like running a country of more than 300 million people.  I could try to figure out what she meant, but trying to get in her head is probably a very bad idea.
